So picture this… it’s christmas 1977. I am 7 years, 7 months old. My future wife, Misty, is 5 months old. Star Wars is still the number one subject on my mind. It was a dark time in the world of Star Wars. There were many items to read, look at and listen to, but toys were nowhere to be found. The closest thing to toys were models and paper crafting books.
Twas the night before x-mas and I was at Granny & Papaw’s house. The sun went down and lightsabers appeared all around. It seemed like every kid on that block had a lightsaber that night. Well, “Lazer Sword”, that is. Every kid except me.
Once the holiday meal was finished then the present opening commenced. I don’t recall most of what I received that evening, which is odd, but because I too had my very own LIGHTSABER! It was a magical moment that I’ll never forget.
OK, so the thing was very cheaply constructed, and the back inner ring that held the flimsy plastic tube/blade in place broke easily. My lightsaber lasted for a few years. Far loner than in should. I held onto the flashlight parts for years after that. My last memory of the toy was one Halloween, I had dress up as a Vampire in a red cape, a domino mask, on roller skates with the Lightsaber. It was probably 81 or 82. It was a bad idea and it ended badly. Well the evening ended in a bit of blood, some lost candy and a broken lightsaber. It lasted longer than it should have. It went down hard and never recovered.
It’s all good, I think that I am over it now. Once I saw this listing on Ebay, I knew that I had to share my tale.
Thanks for reading,
Live long, prosper, and may the force be with you.
