A long time ago, on TVs far, far away, a great adventure took place. It was November 17th in 1978, well over a year after Star Wars was released as a rave success. I was eight years old and, like the rest of the nation (perhaps the world), was STARVING for more Star Wars. The Force was strong with me and it awakened something new in my life. It was the true blossoming of my Geekness.
Back to Friday, November 17th, the eight year old me eagerly awaits the best thing on TV… EVER! I just knew it would be. Now I am not going to be going into how it plays today, I just want to remember and share what it was for me then. Can I still watch it now? Heck yeah. I may be a cynical and jaded geek, but I can still enjoy things that were just meant to be fun.
The story is basically that Chewbacca needs to make it home for Wookiee Life Day. Wookiee Life Day? I am intrigued, please tell me more. Ok.
Hey Google, tell us what that is.
Life Day was a Wookiee holiday celebrated by the inhabitants of Kashyyyk every three years. It was a celebration of the planet’s diverse ecosystem and the many forms of life it encompassed.
That is Life Day in a nut shell. The concept was awesome to me, as a child. The Great Pumpkin thing never panned out for extra gifts, but THIS had to be a winner! We didn’t have a lot so any extra fun tossed our way was a delightful bonus. Long story short, Life Day had as much of a chance around my household as gifts from the Great Pumpkin.
As an “adult”, Life Day is an excuse, ok ANOTHER excuse, to celebrate Star Wars and all of Geekdom. Don’t think I won’t. I already have shirt picked out for the day (at work) and will be celebrating life in my own way.
You are welcomed to Join me ^_^
Have a Happy Life Day, and May the Force be with You.
