[via StarWars.com] September 4, a.k.a. Force Friday — the highly-anticipated midnight release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens toys, collectibles, gadgets, and more — is almost here. It will be the world’s first chance to own official product celebrating the next installment of the Star Wars saga, and several retailers have, to quote Admiral Piett, “something special planned.” Check out StarWars.com’s special event guide below and may the Force (Friday) be with you!
Ever since it was first announced, Star Wars Episode VII has been a huge topic. There have been news, rumors and reports of actors being sought for roles in the upcoming film. Not just actors but big name actors. Now this is a far cry from the humble beginnings of the very first film. As a matter of fact this is diametrically opposed to the philosophy of that original production. Sure, Star Wars, now known as “A New Hope”, had two heavyweights to bring a bit of gravitas to the film by way of Sir Alec Guinness and Peter Cushing. Those two were not the whole film, they were icing on the cake. I fear that these new films will be all about the icing and not much cake. Star power seems to be the rule and not the exception. This worries me.
I am sure that the movies will be great. Well I am 72% sure 😉
I wonder if this was tweeted by R2?
Awesome news! The Empire Strikes Back was my favorite out of the six movies.
Could this be the working title for the next Star Wars film? These guys think so and have some “sources” to back it up. I don’t hate the title. I am actually liking the the link to the original film that was redubbed “A New Hope” after its second release.
While I really like him in Sherlock, I thought he was “OK” in Star Trek: Into Darkness. There was something off about his character. I’ll need to watch it again, without the metal comparisons to Wrath of Khan, to really know for sure. I dig his voice and think that using it for Smaug in The Hobbit trilogy is an excellent piece of casting. So now the rumor mill is running full tilt and casting him in Star Wars, Episode VII.
What would you have him play?A Hero, Villain or maybe a little of both? If true, he would be a great addition to the franchise as an unestablished, original character.
If this pans out to be true it may give us an idea as to where the next three movies will be going. It won’t be the proper time frame but “Dark Empire” could be where this leads us. With the inclusion of Emperor Palpatine we have the continued presence of clones and that could lead to some good storytelling. He may also be a Force spirit or even used for flashback scenes. I am excited to see Ian McDiarmid reprise the role either way 🙂
I can see Disney/LucasFilm getting the space reserved at Pinewood studios in England but as for the film being in actual pre-production… I don’t buy it. Unless you count meetings, figuring out plots & scripts and coming up with possible designs to use.
