So when the teaser came out, last year-ish, I wasn’t too impressed. I am tired of the sepia-haze that is now the hallmark of WB Superhero movies. That and the whole “No Humor” thing sort of irked me.
Something has changed. What’s made me change my tone? What ONE thing has made me pull a 180? One thing. One human. One Actor. Ben Affleck has sold me on the direction and tone of this upcoming film. Sure, Ben has been in some films that just didn’t work but this is not going to be one of those. When you watch the trailer you don’t see this “sad” Batman that we’ve been saddled with for however long now, you feel “mad” Batman. Yep, beyond seeing the anger that Ben portrays, you feel it. That is the mark of good director and a talented actor.
I am still unsure if I will actually go see this in the theater but I will see it. At this point I can’t wait for it to come out so I can view it at home. Why? Why wait for the BluRay/Digital Download? Well the movie looks so intense that some people in my household, perhaps even me, would need to take some breaks from viewing it.
Blade. Blade was, quite possibly, the opening shot in the Marvel salvo of awesomeness. Sure, there were some misses, but Blade was a bullseye. It doesn’t matter if Blade 3 wasn’t the greatest. Blade and Blade II were excellent.
So, how do I feel when I hear that Mr. Snipes has been in talks with Marvel? Marvel… you know, the guys who make a living out of skating on thin ice. The same Marvel who made Guardians of the Galaxy work. The same Marvel who WILL be making another Howard the Duck movie. I feel giddy. Marvel likes to make money, and making another Blade would be like an easy trip to the bank.
DEADLINE: Well, will you be bringing the vampire hunter back?
SNIPES: The project is controlled by Marvel and we did have a really productive and a wonderful meeting and we discussed a number of things. I don’t know where it’s on their schedule at this point, that hasn’t been decided. I guess it’s still up in the air.
DEADLINE: Could we see you going the ever expanding Marvel Universe in another way?
SNIPES: That’s a possibility too. I’ve always been a fan of these pieces and adaptations and I’d be nice to be a part of the family again. But if we don’t to a Blade 4 or something else with Marvel, we’ll do something else. We have some other characters and some other concepts that are going to be just as exciting and hopefully just as successful. The first season of The Player will be interesting as well because we have drama and action, which is what I like. It gives me a chance to do a number of different things.
I know that I am tardy to the party, but real life can be a bitch. That being said, this cover to Entertainment Weekly gives us a new look at the DC Trinity in non-washed out color. I mean wow… look at all of the color! Wonder Woman looks, well, wonderful. She could use a bit more bulk but she looks really good. Batman still looks more “emo” than stoic and Superman looks sort of smug. If the movie actually gives us a bit of this color, I would be more interested in watching it. Nothing against Snyder’s vision but it is way to dark and dingy.
These Mondo figures look like they’ll be very accurate to the comics versions that were featured in the 1984 – 1985 Mirage run of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The 11″ tall, 1/6 scale Turtles will make their debut at SDCC2015. I think I’ll keep an eye out for at least one, I have a 2003 12″ Raphael that could be replace by one of these 😉
From USA Today: Ninja Turtles figures (price TBD).
“After Mondo dipped its toes in the toy business beginning last Comic-Con, this summer brings the first in a new series of toys based on the original TMNT comics of the 1980s. First up is Leonardo, who stands 11 inches tall and comes with a bunch of accessories including weapons, a blue mask to match the cartoons and a red mask from the comics. Also on display will be the upcoming figures of Donatello, Michelangelo and Raphael.”
I found this to be a very fun moment, possibly one of the best, from any video coverage of this year’s Comic-Con International. From what I can see, Tom Hiddleston was truly enjoying himself reprising his role as Loki.
So, again, we bid a fond farewell to the San Diego Comic-Con. Once more I have not been an attendee. No worries though since there were some great stories and some even greater people willing to share their experiences almost real-time. It is the power of the Geek. It surrounds us, connects us and binds the Multiverse together. So I would like to thank my fellow Geek Brothers and Sisters for the time that they took sharing and keeping the rest of us up to date on everything bit of news that the SDCC had to offer.
I cannot wait! Ultron is the proverbial “bad penny”. He just keeps turning up. In this movie game of Go Big or Go Home, this is exactly what will be needed to go bigger than the first movie. This reveal makes me happy that they are pulling from the old Avengers mythos and not some of the newer stuff. I believe that I am, now, more excited for this film than the upcoming Star Wars movies.
I should have seen that coming. The heat will be on who ever will be playing Batman though. Toward the end of the article they neglected to, once again, give Bill Finger credit for co-creating Batman. Come on CBR, you are better than that.
